POS City Police Walk Off The Job Citing OSHA Issues

by | Jul 16, 2014

NEWS GRAPHIC 3OSHA related issues are being blamed for the decision made by 83 police officers attached to the Port of Spain City Police, after they walked off the job

On Wednesday afternoon, the officers stood on the pavement outside of City Hall in Port-of-Spain. A spokesperson for the disgruntled group said the office is in a dilapidated state, with the ceiling falling in, inadequate washrooms, faulty air conditioning, the presence of rodents and flooding woes, outlined.

The officers say they’ve been housed in the basement area of the building for over twenty years and they have sent a letter to Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar who has requested that Local Government Minister, Marlene Coudray, look into the matter.

Reports are that Minister Coudray has since written to various CEOs and funds have been released to have the situation corrected, however despite this assurance, the officers are carded to meet with PSA President, Watson Duke and President of the Police Social and Welfare Association, Anand Ramesar, on Thursday to decide on their next course of action.
