Prime Minister, Kamla Persad Bissessar, is again defending her recent trip to Brazil.
The Opposition People’s National Movement took issue with the visit.
PNM claimed the trip came at a time when there are critical issues confronting the country and citizens.
However, Mrs Persad Bissessar explained she paid for the trip with some of her family members and needed a vacation, her first since heading the government in May 2014.
She spoke with reporters on the matter at the Nelson Mandela Appreciation reception held at Diplomatic Centre, St Ann’s.
Commenting on allegations of abuse at a Home for Boys, the Prime Minister described the claims as troubling.
Mrs Persad Bissessar also confirmed that a cabinet appointed task force is expected to submit soon recommendations concerning the operations of children’s homes.
