Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar is this afternoon responding to ongoing murmurs within the media, among the opposition and members of the public in relation to the submission of a letter from the Solicitor General advising that an investigation be conducted into matters involving lawyers engaged in prison litigation.
Via media release, Mrs. Persad Bissessar said she immediately addressed the matter with the attorney general and her efforts in this regard, were met with the satisfaction of the then Solicitor General. She explained that Mrs. Eleanor Donaldson -Honeywell subsequently submitted a letter thanking the Prime Minister for her proactive attention into the matter, adding that she was confident that the issues raised would be adequately addressed.
Mrs. Persad Bissessar said that in her view, she was in fact the right person to handle the matter, adding that the issue was treated with the urgency and seriousness required. The Prime Minister said she has noted the
current concerns raised by the former Solicitor General in a media release issued earlier this week and has further noted the recent calls by the Prison Officers Association for the matter to be probed further.
