The process of releasing prisoners from the penal system continues. National Security Minister Stuart Young today said the first set of prisoners who will be released as a part of the programme under the stewardship of the AG’s office, are not considered high risk prisoners and as such, they will not necessarily be monitored.

Minister Young however noted that the Mercy Committee of which he plays an integral role as Chairman, is something that has seen some 700 persons apply for release. He explained that each prisoner must have a hearing and at this time, both the Ministry of National Security and the Attorney General’s office, are working on a suitable process to deal with this situation.
