Several demonstrators are expected to gather outside a number of offices in South Trinidad to protest a myriad of problems affecting persons who vacated their property for construction of the Debe to Mon Desir section of the Point Fortin Highway.
The protestors are being led by President of the Highway Action Committee Edward Moodie.
They said a decision by National Infrastructure Development Company Limited (NIDCO) and the Minister in Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Stacy Roopnarine to stop assisting the relocated residents with rent assistance is one of their major bones of contention.
According to the Mr. Moodie NIDCO sent a letter stating that they are not obligated to pay any more rent.
He said government officials are releasing false information about the distribution of land for relocation; and to date not a single person has gotten a lease.
Placard bearing protestors are expected outside the constituency offices of Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Stacy Roopnarine and NIDCO’s south office from 10 am today.
