In July this year Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar announced the termination of the controversial programme, in the parliament, following the tabling of the “Report of the Central Audit Committee on the Comprehensive Audit of the Payment System.
Mrs. Persad Bissessar expressed shock, personal disappointment and dismay that a programme that was intended to save and build lives was used by a group of people for fraud and personal gain.
Speaking at the weekly news briefing, Deputy Commissioner of Police for Crime , Glenn Hackett, said the investigation is being led by Assistant Commissioner Anti-Crime Operations, Carlton Alleyne , and several persons have been interviewed and more will be done.
Mr. Hackett also confirmed that the Police Service may have to carry out its own forensic audit into the controversial programme.
