Five men have been shot and killed by police in Laventille, overnight. Their identities are not yet known. Reports indicate that the men shot at the officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force who had received information and gone to a house in the Trou Macaque area. Officers returned fire, killing the criminals.

Protest action is said to have followed this morning, with residents of the area blocking the roadway with garbage and other debris. Meanwhile, police commissioner, Gary Griffith, speaking on the Morning Brew on CNC3 this morning, said:

“I am pleading with people not to engage in wrongdoing. The TTPS will outgun you. We have greater firepower, more specialised training, so do not challenge us.”
