PSA presents ‘OSH’ report

NEWS GRAPHIC 11The Public Services Association (PSA) presented a document at a press conference this morning which stated that there was evidence that workers were at risk while carrying out their duties.

It stated that an Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA) Inspection Report which was conducted at the Immigration Office at No. 67 Frederick Street Port of Spain on Friday 4 July 2014 showed that the employees’ health and safety had been threatened.

The OSHA Report cited the Employer as failing in fulfilling his duties by not having arrangements for:

Maintenance of workplace access and egress, provision and maintenance of work environment, general policy for OSH outlining organization and arrangements, developed in consultation with workers and their representatives, OSH Committee, written emergency plan based on a risk assessment and / or none done annually.

The OSH report indicated that the Health of the emloyees were in serious and imminent danger and unusual circumstances arose which ere hazardous and injurious to the employees’ life and health.
