Residents in the Southern area of Trinidad remain concerned with the expectation of more rainfall.

This is according to the MP for Oropouche East Dr Roodal Moonilal.

Several areas in South Trinidad including Penal, Debe and Barrackpore have experienced flooding over the last few days, with some areas still under water.

Flooding also occurred in the following areas: Rio Claro, Navet Village, Mafeking, El Carmen, Madras Road, Piarco By Pass Road, Fyzabad and South Oropouche.

Speaking with News Power Now on Monday, Dr Moonilal said that the residents were deeply affected and that while there is help being rendered to persons in his constituency, there is concern with rains that have been forecasted by the Met Office.

He said that persons have also lost livestock and crops.

Meanwhile, in the Penal/Debe area, help is being provided for persons who have also been adversely affected have been receiving much-needed help.

Chairman of the Corporation Dr Allen Sammy revealed that donations have been coming in from the private sector.

Dr Sammy gave the assurance that post-flood cleanup activities have already begun.
