Rice farmer Richard Singh is claiming that there continues to be a level of uncertainty surrounding the future and survival of the industry locally.

Speaking on the State of the Nation Programme on Power 102.1FM on Monday afternoon, Mr. Singh said at this time the sector lacks support systems that could ensure sustainability.

He said that the situation is compounded by late payments for rice sold to the state.

Mr. Singh further noted that rice farmers are willing to go into other areas of the agriculture sector but before doing so they want to find out from the state what direction or policies are on the agenda for the industry.
