One man has been arrested for possession of firearm and ammunition in the Rio Claro district. On Monday, between the hours of 1pm and 4pm an exercise was conducted in the Rio Claro district coordinated by Snr Supt (Ag) Aguilal, supervised by Sgt (Ag) Maharaj and included personnel of the Criminal Investigations Department Task Force and the Emergency Response Patrol.
At around 1:30pm the police party executed a search warrant for firearm and ammunition at the home of a 61 year-old man of San Pedro Road, Rio Claro and during the search one homemade shotgun loaded with one round of 12 gauge cartridge was found.
The man was arrested and later charged for the offences of possession of firearm and ammunition, by Cpl (Ag) Denoon. Jeffrey Sydney appeared before the Rio Claro Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty to the offences and is expected to reappear on Friday for sentencing.
