Education Minister, Anthony Garcia.

The Education Ministry has assured that concerns raised repeatedly by parents of students attending the San Juan Boys’ and Girls’ Primary School, are not being sidelined. In fact, via media release issued on the weekend, the Ministry of Education has assure that the overdue repair work on the school, will begin this week.

According to the press statement, approval has been granted for the release of funds for the major repair work to commence. The school is located at #60 Second Street, in San Juan. Students have been shuttled from that location to a temporary school location in Tunapuna, for some time, pending the repair completion, of the San Juan facility. Last week, angry parents protested in front of the Tunapuna location, calling on the Minister of Education to repair the shed and toilet facilities at the San Juan location. They had also called for the  infrastructural work at the School to resume.

According to the media release from the Ministry of Education, the Education Facilities Company Limited (EFCL) will engage a contractor to undertake a complete overhaul of the toilet facilities at the venue, with three new toilets earmarked to be installed to provide better facilities for the students and teachers who use that facility, daily. It assured that the repair work is being treated as priority and is expected to be completed within a week.

Education Minister Anthony Garcia is expected to visit the schools sometime this week to tour the facilities and engage teachers and stakeholders.
