Incidents of violence and indiscipline in schools have made its way into the public domain recently.
Videos have been making the rounds on social media.
On Wednesday there were reports that a teacher’s vehicle at Trinity College was damaged by a firebomb that students were discharging.
Also reports that eight girls ambushed a teacher who had earlier parted a fight at the Carapichima West Secondary School, grabbed headlines on Tuesday.
President of the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers ASSOCIATION (TTUTA) Devanand Sinanand, acknowledged that there is a deeply rooted problem that must be addressed.
He said these problems are a reflection of the wide scale issues that have been affecting our youth, many with parents who are out working to take care of the home financially.
He lamented that this then leaves their young ones exposed to negative influences.
Mr. Sinanan stressed that this was not a task strictly for teachers and the Government.
He said that parents, ordinary citizens and indeed everyone had to play a role in addressing the issue.
