There is now a new association which is seeking the welfare of scrap dealers of Port of Spain and environs.

It’s called the East Port of Spain Metal Recycling and Environmental Association which was formally launched today at a media briefing held at the All -In-One Junior Servol Life Centre at Beetham Gardens.

In a News Power Authority interview this afternoon, the group’s Communications personnel, Leah Alcara, told us they are requesting a meeting with the Trade and Industry Minister and the Attorney General to discuss several matters affecting them one of which is government’s permission to resume operations in a more control environment.

Another matter on the group’s agenda is the compensation for members of the association whose scrap metals were taken away without notice.

Ms Alcara added the association is also requesting permission from the relevant government agencies to use the identified location which was agreed upon by the East Port of Spain Development Company and Beetham residents.
