While the countdown continues to Trinidad and Tobago’s Women’s football team first-leg World Cup qualifier against Ecuador in Ecuador on Saturday, likely future members of the TT team will be parading their developing skills on the sprawling green of the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Trinidad today.

The girls teams of St Augustine Secondary of East Trinidad and Scarborough Secondary of Tobago take the Stadium field at 3 pm today for what is the final of the Secondary Schools League’s Girls Championship.

On Saturday Naparima College won the Boys championship in a close-call finish with St Anthony’s College while San Juan North and Speyside Secondary of Tobago completed the Top Four order.

The Boys teams from the various zones, North, South, East, Central and Tobago are now turning attention to the Intercol knockout championship which kicks off tomorrow.

The Girls Intercol run begins Thursday.

Jamal Emmanuel – Fyzabad Boys team goalkeeper

Yesterday Fyzabad Boys team and their standout goalkeeper Jamal Emmanuel delighted their very many school-mates who came with them to Port-of-Spain for their Big Eight final with north’s QRC — Fyzabad winning 3-1 on kicks from the penalty spot after their goalless outcome in 90-minute regulation play on the Hasely Crawford Stadium outer field.

Emmanuel made three crucial saves in the spot-kicking tie-break and got a shoulder-high lift by his school fans for his brilliance.

Both Fyzabad and QRC were already guaranteed promotion to next year’s Boys League Premier Division having qualified for yesterday’s final of a tournament that featured the top two finishers from zonal championships in the North, South, East and Central Trinidad.

The tournament guarantees the top three promotion to the Premier Division and today the third team for the move forward will be determined with Princes Town West and Trinity College Moka clashing from 5 pm at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

Three matches are on schedule in the TT Pro League this evening – W Connection versus St Anns Rangers from 6 pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Central Trinidad and at the Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya it’s Defence Force versus Caledonia AIA of Morvant Laventille at six and San Juan Jabloteh versus North East Stars at 8.
