Seven police officers have been arrested, months after 18 year old Jameson John reported that they doused him with a flammable liquid before setting him on fire at the Princes Town Police Station, in December 2013.
Investigations by the Professional Standards Bureau of the police service, led to the detention of the seven, including a police corporal, on Wednesday.
The officers who were all attached to the Princes Town Police Station, were expected to be placed on separate identification parades to be conducted at the Barataria Police Station.
An investigation was launched after John suffered burns while in custody at the Princes Town Police Station on Christmas Eve. The Moruga teenager was taken from the station to the San Fernando General Hospital where he was treated for burns to his torso, leg and genital area.
The police officers claimed John’s injuries were caused when he spilt methylated spirits on his clothing while tending to a foot wound at his home. They said his clothing later ignited when he passed near to lit scented candles at the police station.
