Executive Communications Assistant of the Trinidad and Tobago Council of Evangelical Churches, Akilah Holder, says marriage is not just a legal contract as presented by the secular world, but a divine covenant established by God.

Ms Holder made the comment as she reflected on a recent decision by President Paula-Mae Weekes, to uphold a rule that invited guests to presidential events are only allowed to bring their legal spouses.

Speaking with News Power Now on Tuesday afternoon, Ms Holder said while she understands that truth will not always be popular, the council has a responsibility to highlight what God has stated on the issue.

Ms. Holder also focused on the challenges facing family life and suggested that when persons allow themselves to be spiritually guarded, this helps to bring about normalcy, peace and unity in the home.
