There is a suggestion today from a government senator that the ministry of health stop its doctors from having a private practice, while employed by the state.
Today the ministry of health officials as well as the medical council appeared before a joint select committee of parliament.
During the meeting,the quality of healthcare provided to citizens was a topic of focus.
Senator Nigel De Freitas spoke to a clause which allows doctors to practice privately, while employed by the ministry.
He said this needs to be corrected.
In response, president of the medical council of Trinidad and Tobago, Prof Anand Seemungal said money will be the key factor is correcting this deficiency.
The suggestion was supported by Opposition MP Ramona Ramdial.
