Stuart Young Says Government Does Not Hit The Streets to Fight Crime, it Brings Legislation.

The Government does not go to the streets to fight crime itself it provides support for the law enforcement agencies and some of that support is through Legislation. This is the statement being made by Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Stuart Young.

He says what is now glaringly obvious to citizens is that a lot of the murders being committed are gang related.

He said anyone denying that fact is really burying their head in the sand.

He said the Anti-Gang Legislation is not a PNM thing, adding that this is something the police service asked for. The UNC, when they were in power, brought the Legislation which the PNM Opposition supported.  It had gone through a Joint Select Committee and was passed with a sunset clause.
