National Security Minister, Stuart Young will appear before the Joint Select Committee on Wednesday, January 29th to answer questions related to his statement made at last week’s post-cabinet media conference that certain people have been using crime to inflict fear and panic across the population, in a bid to destabilize the country.
His comments came following last week’s brazen afternoon shooting along Nelson Street in Port-of-Spain and subsequently, the shootout between the suspects who perpetrated the murder of a man on Nelson Street, and police, along the Eastern Main Road in Laventille. Minister Young has since said a number of sitting members of parliament are currently under investigation by police, for their alleged links with criminal elements.
Speaking on CNC3’s morning show, The morning Brew, Minister Young said he was made aware of these alleged links between certain political officials and these criminal elements, as recent as this past weekend. Further to that, the minister said that he himself had been approached my members of the underworld, within his constituent, to meet, and he refused, saying he would not be a part of such behaviour.
