An 18-year-old was arrested and a machine gun and a quantity of marijuana was seized during an anti-crime exercise in the Central Division on Sunday.
The exercise also included officers of the Couva CID and Court and Process Branch. Acting on information, the officers proceeded to a house at Cedar Hill Road, Claxton Bay, where they executed a search warrant. One Mac 10 machine gun, 73 rounds of 9mm ammunition and 33 rounds of .40mm ammunition were discovered. Officers also found 2.1 kilogrammes of marijuana, hidden in the house. The drug has an estimated street value of $21,000.
An 18-year-old man who was found on the premises at the time of the exercise was arrested in connection with the discovery. He is expected to be charged with possession of a firearm, ammunition and marijuana.
