Tensions are high at the North Office of the Trinidad and Tobago Blind Welfare Association.
Workers at the TTBWA have been protesting over the non- payment of salaries.
Since Thursday night the employees have refused to leave their building located at the Corner of Duke and Edward Streets in Port of Spain.
On Tuesday TTBWA Executive Director , Kenneth Suratt, in a statement explained that Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the People & Social Development, Simeon Yearwood, assured the Association that it’s request for supplementary funding will be ready during the course of this week.
However, Mr. Suratt said notwithstanding the decisions taken, members of the All Trinidad General Workers Trade Union continue to occupy the premises and prevent the Association’s vehicles from leaving the compound.
He said this action will delay the processing of wages, salaries and other official business of the Association when the funds are eventually released.
However, Branch Secretary for the All Trinidad General Workers Trade Union , Joseph Lingo Vautor La Placeliere in a News Power Now interview on Wednesday afternoon, warned, workers will not back down until they are paid monies owed to them .
