Tertiary Education and Skills Training Minister, Fazal Karim is urging university students to avoid doing second degrees. Speaking during his feature address at the University of the West Indies Prizes Award Ceremony for the Faculty of Science and Technology on Monday.
He said the question was whether the government would choose to invest in a second degree or in upward mobility. Still uncertain to some degree, Minister Karim assured that he would be working with UWI to establish the Centre for Workforce Research and Development (CWRD), a facility mandated to monitor and evaluate the labour demands of Trinidad and Tobago.
Highlighting that the Government Assistance for Tuition Expenses would now be extended to cover vocational Education Training, the minister said the society could not be built on academia alone.
