The acting commissioner of police, Mr. Stephen Williams denies stopping the recruitment of special reserve
police officers.

Mr. Williams says he was just following due process to ensure proper background checks were done before the

SRP’s were recruited into the service. He says at no time did he stop recruiting SRP’s

Speaking on the power breakfast show on power 102.1fm this morning Mr. Williams said there are officers who are

less than desirable but there are measures in place to weed them out.

The acting commissioner of police said the recent spate of officers being charged and dragged before the courts
is actually favourable to the police service.

Mr. Williams said the officers are only facing the consequences of their actions.

The SRPs work with the regular police almost all the time and any bad habits they acquire while they are with the regulars is played out when they are on their own or together with the regulars. So you will have to do checks on the regulars even after they have been recruited. A lot of rotten eggs are in the police Service within all the rank and file. if we really start doing a weeding job there would hardly be anyone left to do the policing.
