The Business Corner Episode 34- Aired Monday 5th March 2018

Episode 34- Aired Monday 5th March 2018

Established in 1996, the Barbados-based Caribbean Export Development Agency has partnered with the European Union, the World Bank and Canada, on a multi-million-U.S. dollar fund, to provide marketing, technical and financial support for start-ups.

After hosting the 1st Regional forum of Angel Investors (which offers much-needed capital), in May 2017, its Head of Public Relations and Marketing JoEllen Laryea, tells of additional initiatives to help increase access to non-traditional markets, and in support of female-led businesses.

With the passage of the long called for Public Procurement Act in 2015, and an updated e-Tenders platform, in early 2018, there are high expectations for a paradigm shift towards greater accountability, more value for money, and ending public and private corruption. Our panel for this topic comprises Chairman of the Procurement Board Moonilal Lalchan, Keino Cox, Secretary of the Tenders Committee and Senior Manager at TSTT (which initially launched the platform in 2012), and Afra Raymond, immediate past president of the Joint Consultative Council which long advocated for the legislation.

We close with, a very self-motivated Deadre Harold, who went from being a laid-off government employee to supplying quality menus for various events through Dees Catering, and Candice Sobers, of Sobice Solutions, with aims to infiltrate the academic, literary and medical fields and other conferences, with visual arts.
