The Congress of the People is maintaining that the suspension on Anil Roberts remains, even after the Prime Minister cleared the Sports Minister on the controversial video matter.
There have been calls from some quarters for action to be taken following the circulation of a video on social media with a man bearing a striking resemblance to the minister, accompanied by women seen engaging in illegal activity.
Minister Roberts has told reporters that there are attempts by the Opposition, People’s National Movement to tarnish his character.
In a media release on Thursday, Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, stated due to the lack of evidence there is no matter arising, which requires her consideration at this time.
However, today the C.O.P. stated that Mr. Roberts continues to be suspended from all party activities based on his failure to co-operate with the party.
Consequently, Mr. Roberts will remain on suspension from all C.O.P. activities until he co-operates fully with the party and until he provides the clarity which the party requires to make informed decisions.
The C.O.P. was also disappointed that Mr. Roberts provided the Prime Minister with a written report on the matter and refused to do likewise with the party to which he belongs.
