The Cooperative credit union league says it is not opposed to being regulated.

NEWS GRAPHIC 15The Cooperative Credit Union League of Trinidad and Tobago maintains it is not opposed to the industry being regulated.

However, the league is requesting that proposed legislation to govern the sector be relevant and conducive to its operations.

Over the weekend senior officials of various Credit Unions met to discuss the draft policy which has been developed by the government.

In a News Power Now interview this afternoon, President of the Cooperative Credit Union League, Joseph Remy, admitted that there is need to strengthen the regulations under which they function.

However, Mr Remy added that the proposed laws for the sector should enhance and not suppress its work.
