Minister of Education, Anthony Garcia says the time has come for drastic action concerning the behaviour of students.

Addressing the incident at the Barataria Secondary School in which a teacher was beaten by students for attempting to take away scratch bombs.

Minister Garcia said he has ordered that the suspension be extended until a full investigation is complete.

He added that he is willing to expel the student if need be and ensure that the student faces the courts.

The Education Minister was asked if expulsion and possibly jail was the best way to address the situation.

He explained that while he is in support of reformation it was simply a matter of the greater good.

Meanwhile, President of the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers’ Association, Lyndsley Doodai said teachers will not shrink back from their responsibilities at the nation’s schools despite the recent incident which occurred at the Barataria Secondary School.
