The opposition leader announces his intentions to refer the Prime Minister to the Integrity Commission

Opposition Leader Dr. Keith Rowley has announced his intention to refer Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar to the Integrity Commission

The Opposition Leader made this revelation during a media conference at his Charles Street, Port of Spain office this morning

Dr. Rowley said he intends to write to the Integrity Commission today with regard to a possible connection between the Prime Minister and a contractor who was awarded a 40 million dollar contract from National Petroleum

Dr Rowley said Mrs. Persad Bissessar spent several weeks at a house at Pasea Road, Tunapuna which belongs to the contractor after being elected as Prime Minister of this country on May 24th 2010

The Opposition Leader maintains that this in itself could be a breach of section 27:1 of the Integrity in Public Life Act


In addition to referring the Prime Minister to the Commission Dr. Rowley said the Opposition also plans to raise questions on the matter in the Parliament

The Opposition also plans to file several requests to NP for documents related to the award of the contract
