The Opposition leader challengers the Attorney General again

arcelormittal_logo1_0The Opposition Leader is counteracting claims of innocence made by the Attorney General in recent days, as it relates to his relationship with Arcelor Mittal.

On Monday, Mrs. Kamla Persad Bissessar accused the AG of being aligned to the steel company that has, in recent weeks, placed hundreds of employees out of employment. In a statement issued last evening, the Siparia MP called on Mr. Al Rawi to explain why he did not make public, his involvement in the affairs of the steel company, prior to her exposure of it.

She also raised questions as to whether Mr. Al Rawi, as the company’s legal advisor up until the September, 2015 General Election, would or would not have known about the imminent shutdown of the company and the plan to avoid paying the workers their benefits.

Mrs. Persad Bissessar is suggesting that in a bid to ensure accountability, the Attorney General and the Prime Minister’s former personal attorney Mr. Reginald Armour SC, should disclose all legal fees paid to them by Arcelor Mittal, so that the public can judge whether there is any truth to the allegation that exorbitant legal fees, beyond what may usually be incurred for such legal work, were demanded and received as a masked method of contributing to the PNM’s election campaign.
