The Police Complaints Authority Laments This Country’s Lack Of A Well-Functioning Witness Protection Programme.

The Police Complaints Authority again finds itself having to seek the cooperation of citizens who “have witnessed or have knowledge of” alleged wrongdoing by law enforcement officers.

Speaking in a News Power Now interview on Sunday, Director of the PCA David West said families and witnesses are keen to assist with an investigation, however, the majority are fearful for their safety, hence they avoid talking to the PCA, which hinders the investigation.

One of the solutions, according to Mr West, is placing persons in the Witness Protection Programme, though that in itself poses its own set of challenges.

The PCA head also took aim at the criminal justice system in the country, as he lamented the backlog of cases that are before the courts and the pace at which these matters are dealt with
