In wishing the Christian Community of Trinidad and Tobago a very happy and holy Christmas on behalf of her Government, Prime Minister Kamla Persad- Bissessar has asked citizens to practice the art of selfless giving.

She said citizens could rest assured that there would be no cuts in the health sector, social programmes or in the national security budget. Citizens have also been assured that there will be no cutbacks in recurrent expenditure such as wages and salaries. Mrs. Persad Bissessar however explained that government would be taking a close look at non essential services and if necessary and possible, financial commitments made in these areas, would be reduced.

Speaking about the current crime situation in this country, the Prime Minister called on the population to work together toward alleviating the crime scourge. She said as a nation, we cannot sit back and allow a small number of people to wreak havoc across the nation. Expressing confidence that there would be a reduction in homicides in 2015, Mrs. Persad Bissessar said it is understood that more needs to be done in this area.
