Dr Karen Sohan

Two babies born to women with the Zika virus locally are in good health so far.

The update comes from Medical Director at Mt. Hope Women's Hospital, Dr. Karen Sohan.

She was speaking at the weekly health briefing.

It was held at the Ministry of Health Head Office, Park Street, Port of Spain.

Zika has been deemed a public health emergency, because it can cause serious birth defects.

Dr Sohan noted that to date the babies have not displayed any symptoms commonly associated with the mosquito borne Zika virus.
