This is according to the Minister of Works and Transport Fitzgerald Hinds.
He stated that government had no intention of raising the speed limit, until all the necessary road safety measures were in place.
Minister Hinds was in La Brea on Tuesday as the Ministry of Works and Transport undertook a repaving exercise along the La Brea Main Road.
He endorsed the installation of cable barriers as a deterrent to fatal accidents.
He explained that the government was aware of all the arguments for and against the increase of the current 80km per hour speed limit.
At present there are only 6 radar speed guns available for use on the nation’s highways and roadways.
The Minister revealed that the Ministry was prepared to provide funding for the purchase of additional speed guns.
