Workers at Trinidad Offshore Fabricators (TOFCO) protested this morning against what they claim are unfair work practices by their employer.
The protesters highlighted various issues they say have negatively affected them and need to be addressed.
Workers showed their disgust this morning by shutting down the plant.
One of the major issues that were underscored was what they described as management’s systematic efforts at removing local workers and replacing them with foreign workers.
In an interview with News Power Now this morning, welder and Oilfield Workers Trade Union Member Clive Charles revealed that this needed to be addressed.
He also noted that the Company had been specifically dismissing union members and hiring other labour to take their place.
Mr. Charles divulged that health testing was another problem.
He said residents also protested what they termed discrimination of workers from their area.
