Tough economic times not responsible for rising crime…so says the head of a major business group

Gregory Aboud (1)

The Downtown Owners and Merchants Association President, Gregory Aboud

The Downtown Owners and Merchants Association is today calling on this country’s National Security Ministry and its law enforcement officers to step up their game in the fight against crime.

His impassioned plea ahead of the Christmas season comes even as this country recorded several brutal murders on the weekend.

In a News Power Now interview this morning, DOMA President, Gregory Aboud said the present crime situation has nothing to do with economics challenges.

He said criminals are simply being allowed to carry on with their activities with no serious consequence.

Mr. Aboud said the law must be enforced in this country.

He added that the authorities have thus far, failed to serve the public.

The DOMA President said it would be amiss of him to speak of problems facing Port –of- Spain specifically, when in truth and in fact, crime and murder are serious matters that are affecting every person, in every part of this country.
