Trade and Industry Minister doesn’t support call to stop imports from Jamaica

Trade and Industry Minister, Steven Cadiz, is not in support of a call from some quarters for imports from Jamaica to be stopped in light of major finds of illegal drugs in shipping containers originating from that country.

Two weeks ago Customs and Excise Division personnel and port security officers at Point Lisas found marijuana worth 30 million dollars in a container said to have frozen chicken parts.

However, in an interview on the matter, Minister Cadiz, says following through with this recommendation will have serious implications since this country enjoys strong trading ties with Jamaica.
