“Pleased, but will closely monitor the situation.”
This is the response of the Transport and Industrial Workers Union to the action taken by the Public Transport Service Corporation following health and safety concerns highlighted.
On Wednesday Marketing and Communications Manager, Carl Ramdeo, in a News Power Now, said seven of thirteen areas tested by the company Green Engineering at P.T.S.C.’s compound , City Gate, Port of Spain, indicated the presence of asbestos.
He said P.T.S.C. officials and Transport Industrial Workers Union executive members met and discussed ways to correct problems identified without adversely affecting the operation of the service.
Commenting on the matter in a News Power Now this afternoon, T.I.W.U. President, Roland Sutherland, said while the union welcomes measures to rectify the situation it will continue to keep a close watch on the issue.
