The Association has not commented on the national team’s performance at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland in which Trinidad and Tobago finished 10th of the 12 competing nations.
After winning their opening match 38-37 against Caribbean rivals Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago suffered defeats in their five other matches, all against higher-rated teams.
Beaten semifinalists England won 70-24 against TT in the preliminary round, gold medal winners Australia won 69-34, South Africa triumphed 56-40 and Wales came through 50-31 winners.
In TT’s last match, a playoff to determine the ninth and tenth placed teams, Scotland prevailed 46-28. Barbados meanwhile finished 11th.
Yesterday NEWSPOWER Sport learnt that Trinidad and Tobago are among eight national teams to compete in the Americas Federation of Netball Associations Championships tournament in Calgary, Alberta, Canada from August 19 to 25.
The tournament is the official qualifying event for the Netball World Cup which will be held in Sydney, Australia next year.
The top two teams from the Americas tournament will qualify.
Apart from Trinidad and Tobago, the other national teams set for Canada are Barbados, Argentina, the United States of America, Cayman Islands, Grenada, St Lucia and Canada.
In current International Netball Federation’s listing, Barbados are ninth-ranked with Trinidad & Tobago tenth, St. Lucia 18th and Canada 20th.
Trinidad and Tobago are scheduled to play in sequence USA on August 19th, Cayman Islands on the 21st, Canada on the 22nd and Argentina and Grenada and Barbados.
