Trinidad Cement Limited gets a new board

NEWS GRAPHIC 9Shareholders of Trinidad Cement Ltd (TCL) did not have to vote to dismiss six directors at yesterday’s special compulsory meeting, since they all tendered their resignations.

The directors in question are chairman Andy Bhajan, chief executive Dr Rollin Bertrand, Bevon Francis, Carlos Hee Houng, Leonard Nurse and Brian Young.

Their resignations came hours after the company an application in the Court of Appeal in Port of Spain for an injunction to block the meeting.
Shareholders got a chance to elect seven new directors to manage the company’s affairs.

They are: businessman Wilfred Espinet; retired public servant Alison Lewis; Jamaican businessman Christopher Dehring; attorney Michael Glenn Hamel-Smith; Cemex engineers Francisco Aguilera and Carlos Alberto Palero; and local businessman Nigel Edwards.

The new board was expected to meet last night to decide who will be the new TCL chairman.

The future of CEO Dr. Rowlins also remains now in the hands of the new directors
