Trinidadian student-athlete earns water polo award in the USA

Freshman Jonathan Gillette had 16 multi-point games in his rookie season.

BRIDGEPORT, PA – Johns Hopkins freshman Jonathan Gillette has been named the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Rookie of the Year.

The newly created award voted on by the Division III coaches in the CWPA caps a standout rookie season for Gillette as he totaled 39 goals, 16 assists, 18 steals and 15 ejections.

Gillette ranked fourth on the team in goals, fifth in points and ejections drawn and seventh in assists and steals.

He led all freshmen on the team in goals, assists, points and steals. He also tallied four hat tricks with 11 multi-goal games and 16 multi-point games during the course of the season in helping Hopkins to a 14-13 record.

The Blue Jays finished second at the CWPA Division III Championship, fourth at the CWPA Southern Championship and sixth at the CWPA Championship.
