A call has been made for residents of Laventille to erase boarder lines imposed by gang activities.
The call was made during the Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force’s 52nd anniversary Mass held at Our Lady Of Laventille Marion Shrine in Picton Road yesterday.
For the first time in the history of commemorating the event soldiers did not done their white uniforms as they would usually wear for the event.
Due to ongoing action in East port of Spain soldiers filled the church wearing instead their army fatigue.
Commanding Officer of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment Col Rodney Smart apologized to the soldiers.
During his address he explained that the uniforms were not the only thing they had to forego because of the activity
in East port of Spain.
He explained that the soldiers had returned to an internal competition meant to develop soldiers in the past year.
However recent action sparked by the death of Lance Corporal Kayode Thomas would mean that the competition was
now on hold.
Thomas’ mother Marva Thomas also attended the Mass.
Col Smart also explained that the Regiment was also taking part in Community activities apart from law enforcement.
He also announced plans for a July/August Vacation camp for children in the Beverly Hills Community.
