A 26 year old soldier is the country’s latest road fatality.
Dead is Private Akeem Pierre.
According to police reports, at around 4am on Friday, Mr. Pierre was traveling west along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway in the vicinity of El Socorro Extension Road when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed.
Investigators believe he may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
Mr. Pierre, a resident of Siparia, was a member of the regiment for approximately seven years.
At the time of his passing he was a cook assigned to the Regiment’s Headquarters, at the Corner of Knox and Abercromby Streets in Port- of -Spain.
He leaves to mourn his parents and common law wife.
Meanwhile, motorists and members of the public are again being urged by the Police Service to be responsible while using the nation’s roads.
Speaking at this week’s police news briefing, Assistant Commissioner of Mobile, Deodath Dulalchan, reminded citizens of the importance of responsible behavior especially going into the busy Easter period.
He also warned against the dangers of drinking and driving.
