The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission says it is aware of claims being made on social media that there was a quiet increase in electricity rates within the last two months.
In a media release issued on Monday, T&TEC categorically denied these claims, saying there has been no increase in electricity rates since 2009.
The Commission noted that increases in electricity rates fall under the purview of the Regulated Industries Commission and is subject to public consultations before a final determination is made.
It said any increases in bills would be due to customers’ individual consumption, adding that T&TEC has an intelligent metering system, which monitors and logs customers’ actual consumption on a daily basis and the company can assist any customer in identifying where there may have been increases in consumption patterns.
The release stated that any customer with a query can seek further clarity by utilising the customer response form available on the website or by visiting any Service Centre, where a Customer Service Representative would assist.
