T&TEC warns members of the public to stay away from power lines unless otherwise trained

In light of the accident on the Priority Bus Route on Wednesday in which a truck pulled down several utility poles and overhead lines, the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission is offering guidance to the public on safety precautions to take in such circumstances.

The Commission explained that most of the damage was to non-T&TEC equipment and therefore did not pose a shock or electrocution hazard to members of the public.

However, T&TEC, in a media statement, said unless trained, members of the public may not be able to differentiate between a T&TEC, Satellite TV or Telephone cable and can endanger themselves and others.

The utility notes that it is therefore important to adopt extreme caution in such circumstances.
