The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is warning its employees that any strike action taken against the company is illegal.
An internal memo says the company is listed as an essential service and therefore no strike action may be taken.
It says Section 67 (2) of the Industrial Relations Act #23 of 1972 makes employees liable to a one thousand dollar fine and up to six months in prison.
The company adds it intends to take serious disciplinary action against any worker who continues to engage in such action.
