TTPS express condolences after 6 die in accident

6 die in accidentThe Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is this morning extending condolences to the families who have been thrown into morning today.

At least six people are dead following a fatal road traffic accident in Arima on Monday night.

The accident occurred along the corner of the O’meara Road and the Churchill Roosevelt Highway at about 10:30 last evening.

Reports indicate that a Mitsubishi Lancer with four occupants was said to be heading in a westerly direction along the highway when it came into contact with an Isuzu van which was proceeding in a northerly direction.

The accident resulted in the front of the Lancer being smashed in, killing three people instantly, while the Isuzu was thrown onto its left side.

Three people who were in the Isuzu were said to have been killed as well.

Coordinator of the Road Safety Project, Brent Batson spoke with News Power Now this morning and lamented the fact that accidents like these are preventable.

Up to midnight police and fire officials were still on the scene.
