Trinidad and Tobago’s netball has suffered two hits within recent times as its national senior team has been forced to remain idle as the Caribbean Senior Championships scheduled for August 18th to 26th in St Lucia has been postponed.
Earlier today the draw for the 12-nation tournament at next year’s April 4th to 15th Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast excluded Trinidad and Tobago who are currently ranked outside of the top 12 in the world.
The draw has Caribbean duo Jamaica and Barbados in POOL A with Australia, South Africa, Fiji and Northern Island.
Trinidad and Tobago, world champions jointly with Australia and New Zealand in their 1979 staging of the world championships went on to dominate Caribbean netball up to the nineties, but have since found Jamaica in particular hard to beat and Barbados closing ranks.
TT recently finished 15th of 20 in the international federations’ Youth Cup Championships in Botswana. Currently there’s an under-17 players development two-week-long programme taking place at the indoor centre in Tacariqua.
