The Trinbago Unified Calypsoians Organization is saddened that the Calypso King of the World, Dr Slinger Francisco, the Mighty Sparrow was not awarded the country’s highest award, the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

This year four persons were bestowed with the prestigious award.

They are the window of the country’s second President, Noor Hassanali, Zalayhar Hassanali, for Community Service, Businessman Anthony Norman Sabga, Retired Judge, Ulric Cross and Businesswoman, Helen Bhagwansingh.

TUCO had recommended the Mighty Sparrow be seriously considered for the nation’s highest award due to his sterling contribution to culture over his long and outstanding career.

In a News Power Authority interview this afternoon, TUCO President, Lutalo Brother Resistance Masimba, told us although the organization’s request did not materialize the group still believes the Mighty Sparrow is a national icon that should not be sidelined for the country’s highest award.

He also commended calypsoian Denyse Plummer who was awarded the Humming Bird Medal Gold for who input to culture.
