Two cyclists are dead this morning following a vehicular accident along the Beetham Highway in Port-of-Spain. Details are limited however News Power Now understands that the incident occurred as cyclists of the SlipStream Cycling Club had been making their way out of the capital, heading East via the Beetham highway.

The accident occurred when a driver of a motor vehicle ploughed into the group, sending many of the cyclists flying. The two victims who suffered fatal injuries have been identified as 40-year-old Joanna Banks- a British national, and Jaffa restaurant chef, Joe Brown.

The driver of the motor vehicle reportedly claimed he had a tire blowout when he slammed into the group of cyclists.

The 14 cyclists had left the Queen’s Park Oval at 6:15 this morning for their weekend ride.
